What is it about the pie???

There has been a frenzy of activity on @conshybakery’s Twitter page and ConshohockenBakery’s Facebook page regarding the “magic” in the tomato pie. What makes it magical? Fans of the pie have attributed the Flyers success to the amount of tomato pie consumed! Sales had increased dramatically on the days the Flyers were playing in the Stanley Cup Conference Finals. We all know how that ended up; a team with very little expectation of making it to the finals defeated The Montreal Canadiens in just 5 games!

Fans have started creating slogans such as “You can not deny the power of the pie,” and “STAN–LEY–CUP…it’s in the pie,” a take off on EA Sports’ slogan ” EA Sports–it’s in the game.” On twitter, tweets are being forwarded telling followers not to jinx The Flyers and “eat the magic pie.” As a longtime fan of both the Flyers and The Conshohocken Italian Bakery, I will admit to being one of those tweeters! I too, believe in the pie!

The popularity of The Conshocken Italian Bakery is evident, not only by their strong business throughout the region for over 37 years, but in fan reaction to their products since they entered the world of social media. Several blogs have been written about them since joining Twitter and they were even interviewed recently on their use of social media. In recent days new customers have been flocking to the bakery to sample the pie, vowing to return to stock up for The Stanley Cup Finals in which The Philadelphia Flyers will take on The Chicago Blackhawks. Once again, The Flyers are considered to be the underdogs, making the superstitious Flyer fans all the more likely to rush out to buy their “magical tomato pies.” No one knows for sure if the pie actually has “magic” powers, but like the bakery tweeted the other day, “is it worth finding out?”

Some local restaurants have jumped on the the opportunity to support The Flyers by offering complimentary “magical tomato pie” at the bar during the Flyers face-off on Saturday night! The restaurants that we are aware of at this time are:

Chick’s Tavern
