CONTEST BEGINS at 3PM ~ GET THERE EARLY!!

Chick’s Tavern has been owned and operated by the Chiccarine family since 1935. On Sunday, January 29, 2012, Chick’s Tavern will host their 9^th Annual Mussel Bowl at 3:00 pm.  The Irish Thunder Pipe Band will also perform.

Last Year’s Event was a HUGE success and each year’s Mussel Bowl draws a larger crowd, and a more exciting competition! Last year, the 8th Annual Mussel Bowl, held on January 30, 2011 was a record breaking day. Tim Kinney, representing the AOH, ate 280 mussels in ten minutes!

Also in last year’s Mussel Bowl at Chick’s Tavern,  the youngest competitor ever, at the age of 12, eating 143 mussels in 10 minutes, was MY SON, Tanner. One year later, and significantly larger, he will again seek the title.

THE YEAR’S COMPETITION

Sunday, January 29, 2012

3:00 PM

• The competition will feature two rounds of eating, 5 minutes each, with a ten minute break in between.
• The winner will receive Free Mussels for one year on Monday nights.
• The Irish Thunder Pipe Band will perform prior to the event start, so get there early!
• The entry fee for contestants is $20, with those proceeds donated to Retired Officer Steve Savo, Badge # 40 of the Bridgeport Police Department and the AOH Irish Club.

Forget the Wing Bowl……..head to The Mussel Bowl!

Chick’s Tavern in Bridgeport, PA has been voted Montgomery County’s Best Mussels for 6 straight years. This I knew. That they held a Mussel Bowl, I did not know! For the 8th year in a row, Chick’s will be hosting a mussel eating contest on January 30th. The prize? FREE mussels for a year on Monday nights (Chick’s All You Can Eat Mussel Night.) It sounds like a fun event with the entry fee going to the AOH club in Swedesburg.

The Irish Thunder will preform prior to the event start.

Here are the details:

8th Annual Mussel Bowl
Sunday, January 30, 2011
Start Time 2:30pm

Rules
- Contest begins at 2:30pm
- 5 Minutes of eating
10 Minute break
5 final Minutes of eating
- Each contestant will receive a bowl containing 50 mussels and each additional bowl will contain 40
- No alcoholic beverages during the contest
- Water will be provided
- During the 10 minute break, there will be no eating
- Contestants must use their hands – no forks.
- Only the mussels that have been eaten will be counted.
- Winner will be the person who eats the most mussels
- Winner will receive Free Mussels for one year on Monday Nights.
- Each contestant will receive a t-shirt
- If there is a tie, there will be a 3 minute tie breaker round
- Entry fee: $20 (donated to the AOH Club)

Meatball Sandwich from Pasta Via

Meatball Wars is heating up in Conshohocken, PA.

The Final event will be Monday, November 22nd at Spamps.

Meatball Wars started out as this….

It’s been about a month since the “feud” over the best meatballs in Conshohocken began and more than $1000 has already been raised for charity. The participating restaurants are:

Spampinato’s

The Outbound Station

Pasta Via

Stella Blu

Donnie Mac’s Deli

Lenny’s

Each restaurant will donate $1, or more in some cases, to the $100for100 charity with the purchase of a meatball sandwich.

Spampinato’s is also donating $1 from their bottomless meatball dinners on Sunday night to the charity.

Meatball sandwiches will be sold through the rest of the weekend and then….

Meatball Wars will come to a close at a final event on Monday, November 22nd to support $100 for 100 charity. Meatballs from all participating restaurants will be judged and the winner of Meatball Wars will be announced.

A $10 donation to the charity will be requested and you will be given a bracelet for drink specials. There will be $6 glasses of wine, $2 Miller Lites, $5 margaritas, a half price bar menu, and half price meatball sandwiches with your donation. There will also be raffles for gift cards and other prizes. Also on hand will be Lavenders Body Clinic offering chair massage to help you relax while tasting those tasty meatballs!

Spamps – DJ spinning monster tunes and Candy Corn Martinis.

Some of the area’s most talented female chefs and restaurant owners are teaming up to raise money for Women Against Abuse services for victims of domestic violence.

The Dish it Up Event includes a cooking competition with 1o of the city’ most celebrated women-owned or operated restaurants. Contestants include Jennifer Carroll from 10 Arts and current contestant on Top Chef , Ane Ormaechea from Cafe Apamate, Maria Forte from Cucina Forte, Delilah Winder of Delilah’s Southern Cuisine, Effie Bouikids from Effie’s and Paul, Katie Cavuto Boyle from Healthy Bites and previous finalist on The Next Food Network Star, Catherine Lee and Luciana Spurio of Le Virtu, Moon Krapugthong of Chabaa and Mango Moon, Sheryl Borish from Marathon Grill and Lynn Marie Rinaldi from Paradiso.

The evening includes food tasting, cocktails and dancing and all proceeds will go to Women Against Abuse.

On October 22nd, at 6PM the festivities begin at MangoMoon in Manayunk. Local mixologists will judge the entries of the Infusion Contest.

Here’s how it works:

1. Entries must be received by MangoMoon by October 8th, 2009.

2. There is a $10 entry fee which covers the cost of the container that your Infusion must be submitted in for the contest.

3.Use ingredients of your choice to infuse any base alcohol EXCEPT vodka.

The winner will receive $500 and a $200 gift basket.
