Wine is a Priority at The StoneRose

Explore great wines at terrific prices at StoneRose!

Since their opening one year ago, The StoneRose has been dedicated to their vision of providing the suburbs with great food, along with unique, affordable wine pairings. The wine list changes monthly with regional varieties added to their core list. Despite the constant rotation, many “regular” customers discover a wine that they enjoy and stick with it.

“That defeats the purpose of what we are trying to do,” says owner Brian Pieri. “We work hard to identify unique wines to serve so people can branch out from their comfort level, and explore something different .”

In an effort to encourage exploration of the seasonal wine selections, The restaurant has decided to cut prices in half in the early evenings every night. Forget happy hour…….

StoneRose Wine Hours

7 Days a week, from 4PM -6PM (Until Thanksgiving)

All bottles of wine are 1/2 price!

Here are just a few to check out:

D’Aragon Garnacha ‘07 - From Spain, this wine is medium bodied, fruit forward and peppery. The grapes for this wine come from 70 year old vines. Old vines means very low yields and very deeply flavored concentrated grapes. Wine hour price: $19 per bottle

Peirano Estate Vineyards “The Other” Red Wine 08 -  The nose is blackberries, blueberries, cedar and a touch of vanilla. Soft smooth fruit upfront, raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, dark chocolate and light oak spice. A long blueberry vanilla finish. Wine hour price: $19 per bottle

Dievole Sangiovese ‘06 – An Italian medium bodied wine with red fruit and spice notes. Raspberry and strawberry flavors, with good acidity and moderate tannins. Wine hour price: $13 per bottle

Tres Carros Godello ‘07 - This Spanish wine opens with a nice combination of melon, honey and mineral aromas. The wine is fresh and properly acidic, with defined apple, nectarine and melon flavors. On the finish, it’s drying and lightweight, with a hint of papaya and a note of pith. Wine hour price: $13 per bottle

Conshohocken Restaurant Week ~ Party at The Londonbury

IMG_1947The Chef of Flanigan’s Boathouse prepares crab cakes at the event

Conshohocken Restaurant Week begins on June 14th and is sponsored by The Londonbury at Millennium Apartments, on Washington Street in Conshohocken. On Wednesday night the apartment complex held a party to kick-off the event. There are 18 restaurants participating in the event including the ones featured here.

The party was held to showcase the new apartment building and included a tour of one and two bedroom apartments, which I believe, but don’t quote me, start at $1700 per month for a one bedroom apartment. My obvious concentration was on the food! It was a fun night with lots of good eats and a great way to meet area residents and sample the local, expanding restaurant scene.

Kevin was far more diligent than myself, as well as, knowing where to actually find The Londonbury, (I was on the other side on the bridge for 20 minutes), so he was able to get a picture of the full dish of beautiful, fresh sushi. I, on the other hand, arrived after hungry guests had devoured many of the delicious rolls.

IMG_1957A great time was had by all!

Since I arrived late and left early, to be in place for the face-off of Game 6 of The Stanley Cup Finals, I did not get pictures of everything, and not everything that was tasty, photographed well, so since the pictures might take away from the taste, I chose not to post some.

The food from Baggataway Tavern looked amazing as did the pizzas from Pasta Via! Andrew Totaro, from Totaro’s on Hector Street, not to be confused with Trattoria Totaro, which is on Spring Mill Avenue was upstairs, as was Pepperoncini. Gypsy Saloon served a lobster mac and cheese dish which, again I did not think would photograph well. Other participants that I missed, or were not in attendance are (in not particular order):

Spring Mill Cafe

Fayette Street Grille

The Great American Pub

Stella Blu

Guppy’s

Spampinato’s

Theresa’s

Menus for restaurant week are $20 -$35 pp depending on the restaurant and can be found by clicking The Restaurant Week Link.

wine thief

Wine Thief, the wine-centric neighborhood bistro in Mt Airy, has just introduced their new fall menu. The menu isn’t just new, it has been greatly expanded! The updated menu includes 3 additional appetizers, an additional salad, 2 additional side dishes, an additional sandwich and 6 additional entrees!

The vegetarian friendly menu has been updated to include 3 additional vegetarian dishes such as Homemade Poppers, Vegetable Curry with sauteed vegetables and jasmine rice, and a Homemade Vegetable Burger. Other stand-out additions are a Sauteed Calamari appetizer, Grilled Lamb Loin with red pepper rouille, tomato garlic risotto & sauteed spinach, Pork Tenderloin with brussel sprouts, roasted red bliss potatoes and sage demi-glace, and Pan Seared Tuna with grilled scallions & sweet chili rice noodles.

Not to worry if you are dying to try the Thief Roll or Grilled Hanger Steak that Craig Laban highlighted in his review. Both menu items are still available, as well as, the “outstanding” fried chicken!

See the new menu here.
